Free baggage allowance for children and Infants (including occupying or not occupying a seat)

  • Piece System: Infants not occupying a seat - 1 piece with the same weight and dimensions of baggage allowance as an adult of the corresponding traveling class, oversized/overweight baggage rules and excess baggage rates are the same as adult, baggage regulations for children and infants occupying a seat are the same as adult.
  • Weight System: Infants not entitled to a seat - 10kg, oversized baggage rules/excess baggage rates are the same as adult, baggage regulations for children and infants occupying a seat are the same as adult. (Applicable for tickets issuedby CI or by our codeshare partner carriers with free baggage allowance based on weight system.)
In addition to the free checked baggage allowance mentioned above, either a collapsible stroller or a car seat, but not both, can be checked in free of charge.

Terms and Conditions

  • For passengers holding tickets issued on an itinerary with a transfer in Taiwan (not stopover), baggage should be checked in through to the passsenger’s final destination without the option to claim baggage enroute. In this scenario, if passenger plan to enter Taiwan during layover time, for the sake of personal convenience, please be sure to pack personal necessity as carry-on baggage.
  • The adjustments apply to the tickets booked in CI/AE operated flight numbers, or CI/AE are of operating airlines for the longest sector in interline journey.
  • CI/AE code-shared flights operated by other airlines might differ across carriers. Special Fare Types (e.g. Labor/Student/Seaman etc.) or other promotional tickets which additional free baggage allowances have been provided are based on ticket information.
  • Liability of Check Baggage are based on ticket free baggage allowance information.
  • Baggage size information:
    • Economy / Premium Economy / Business class: The sum of each bag's three dimensions may not exceed 62 inches (158 cm).
  • Any checked baggage (except pet/instrument/sporting equipment), will be treated as oversized/overweight if its total dimension and/or its weight exceeds the limit stipulated in free baggage allowance. The additional charge will be applied for such oversized/overweight baggage.

Checked Baggage

Checked Baggage Information

  • In order to avoid damage to your baggage or its contents during transport, we recommend that you pack your belongings in proper suitcases.
  • Please put identification tags or labels with addresses and phone numbers on your baggage. These will enable us to locate your baggage if it is lost.
  • In order to safeguard your properties and to prevent any loss, damage, or delay, China Airlines would like to remind you not to pack any fragile articles, perishable items, or valuable and important personal effects (as mentioned below) into your checked baggage.
  • For passengers who carried electronic devices installed with lithium batteries in checked baggage, please make sure that:
    1. Measures must be taken to protect the device from damage and to prevent unintentional activation.  (Wrapped with cloths/other cushioning material or packed in a rigid package).
    2. The device must be completely switched off. (Not in stand by, sleep or hibernation mode).
    Note: Spare/loose lithium batteries that not installed inside an equipment or power banks must not carried as checked baggage. They must be carried in carry-on baggage with measures to protect the device from damage and to prevent unintentional activation.
  • To avoid causing injuries to porters, your checked baggage cannot exceed 32 kg (70lb) per piece, especially for passengers traveling to and from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, UAE, and Europe. This is in accordance with the local occupational safety rules. If your checked baggage exceeds 32 kg per piece, you will be requested to repack. For some special items exceed 32 kg per piece, please contact China Airlines Reservation offices to pre-advise and get approval at least 48 hours prior to flight departure.
  • If you are connecting to/ from another carrier or taking any code-shared flights operated by other airlines, the free baggage allowance might differ across carriers.  For details, refer to the Interline Baggage Rules.

Valuables and important personal effects

China Airlines will not assume the responsibility for any loss of, damage to or delay in the delivery of following valuable and personal important effects, which are included in your checked baggage:
  • Paintings, artwork, antiques, money, securities, optics, timepieces, natural fur products
  • Jewelry, precious metals/stones, silverware, collectibles, heirlooms and other irreplaceable items
  • photographic/audio/video equipment and related items, mobile phone and other communication equipment
  • computer hardware/software and electronic components/equipment, business equipment
  • Spirits, keys, medicines, drug, orthotics (surgical supports)
  • Manuscripts, blueprints, photographs, publications, negotiable papers, business/personal documents
  • business samples, commercial goods
  • Passports and other identification documents
  • Other similar valuables or commercial effects
