China Airlines Introduces Pantsuit Uniform for Women in Support of Workplace Gender Equality

    Published: Jan 01, 2025

Today (Jan 1) China Airlines has set a new milestone for workplace gender equality by launching a new pantsuit uniform in keeping with global trends in the aviation industry. All women in front-line service roles including ground crews, ticketing staff, and flight attendants at Songshan Airport, Taoyuan Airport, and Kaohsiung Airport can now either wear the pants or skirt uniform based on their personal preferences or the nature of their work. The move will enhance work quality by ensuring the personal comfort of employees.

China Airlines is now making the existing pantsuit uniform available for female front-line service staff, and ground and air crews. The pantsuit uniform will be progressively distributed to all staff and the first batch can be worn beginning today. Existing pants and skirt uniforms were all designed with work safety and convenience in mind, and are made from an anti-static fabric for work environments. In the future, employees can choose to rotate between the two styles of uniforms depending on their duties or the weather.

Serving flight attendant said that the pantsuit uniform was like a breath of fresh air. They maintained the same elegant look but allowed the staff to handle their work with more finesse. Staff also felt more at ease carrying out common tasks such as kneeling to pick up an item, adjusting luggage aboard the plane, bending over to greet travelers, or cleaning up in the cabin. Comfort is greatly improved in cold countries as well. Flight attendants will choose the appropriate uniform option depending on their work or the weather.

Ground staff felt that the pantsuit uniform was well made and fitted. In addition to being warmer in winter, they also improved the agility of the wearer during luggage-handling or apron supervision operations. The additional uniform option provided by the Company was therefore well-received.

Employee diversity development has always been a priority for China Airlines, Taiwan’s flagship airline. The introduction of pantsuit uniforms for women in front-line service positions broke down the traditional stereotype of female service staff wearing mainly skirt suits. Making both uniform options available in the future will not only preserve the gentle grace that China Airlines is renowned for but also emphasize the professionalism of modern women. The diversification of uniform styles means front-line staff can now choose the most comfortable option for them and provide a better service from the heart.
