The first trial of sustainable alternative fuels by the Taiwan aviation industry was therefore initiated by China Airlines to invite travelers and employees to join in embracing “zero carbon travel”. China Airlines also launched the ECO Travel program and became the first Taiwan carrier to commit to supporting the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD).

In addition to supporting the environment, China Airlines is also committed to “giving back to the globe and creating social value” as part of its sustainable development. China Airlines actively reaches out to disadvantaged groups to improve their quality of life and standard of education. Investments in social development ensure tangible improvements to children's education. China Airlines also backs the development of local athletes and pushes for more opportunities to compete on the international stage.

China Airlines has won numerous domestic and international accolades for its sustainability initiatives including Top 5% in Corporate Governance Evaluation and FTSE4Good TIP Taiwan ESG Index 2 times, inclusion in the Taiwan High Compensation 100 Index and Taiwan Employment 99 Index 3 times, being picked by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index - Emerging Markets (DJSI) and FTSE4Good Emerging Index for four consecutive years, as well as the Bronze Class Award in the aviation industry and Industry Mover Award in the latest sustainability yearbook published by RobecoSAM. The awards represent not only recognition of China Airlines' efforts but also help stakeholders understand the carrier's commitment to corporate sustainable development.
