Prohibited / Restricted Items

For the safety of all passengers, crew, and aircraft, the following items are strictly prohibited in carry-on and checked baggage.

  • Explosives, munitions, fireworks, and flares.
  • Safe boxes/boxes incorporating goods such as lithium batteries or pyrotechnics.
  • Kerosene, Kerosene heater, electric kerosene heater.
  • Compressed gases (flammable, non-flammable, or poisonous) such as butane, propane, scuba diving cylinders, lighter fuels, or refills.
  • Oxidizing substances such as bleaching powder and peroxides.
  • Flammable liquids such as paints and adhesives.
  • Flammable solids such as sulfur or strike anywhere matches and articles that are easily ignited.
  • Disabling devices such as mace or pepper sprays, with irritant properties.
  • Poisons such as arsenic, cyanide, or insecticide.
  • Radioactive materials.
  • Corrosive materials such as mercury (which may be contained in thermometers or blood pressure gauges), acid/alkaline wet batteries.
  • Any other substances which, during a flight, present a danger not covered above, such as magnetized, offensive, or irritating materials.
  • The non-removable or un-removed lithium battery hoverboards, self-balancing scooters, balance boards electric luggage scooters and similar devices with board function.
  • Any device that contained with lithium battery over 160Wh is prohibited abroad the plane. (Except lithium battery-powered wheelchairs/mobility aids)
  • Blue flame, Cigar lighters, Strike anywhere matches, Battery-powered lighters (e.g. laser plasma lighters, tesla coil lighters, flux lighters, and arc lighters) without a safety cap or means of protection against unintentional activation are forbidden.

Restricted Items in Carry-on Baggage

For flight safety, the following items cannot be put in carry-on baggage. You are recommended to put them in your checked baggage:

  • Knives (including hunting knives, swords, and pocket knives)
  • Guns (firearms, revolvers, rifles, ammunition as well as accessories for it)
  • Scissors and any other sharp/bladed objects prohibited by local law, such as ice-picks, and nail clippers.
  • Weapons such as whips, nunchakus, batons, or stun guns.
  • Cudgels, tools and agricultural equipment, such as axes, screwdrivers, chains, or hoes.
  • Toys guns/gun shaped items or look-alikes, and handcuffs.
  • Sports equipment such as baseball/cricket bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks, and billiard cues.
  • Aerosols (hair sprays, perfumes, medicines containing alcohol) not exceeding 0.5 kg/litre per article and 2.0 kg/litre in total weight.
  • Any other items which are deemed security hazards by local law.
  • Any other items that resemble or have similar functions to the above items.
Restrictions on Lithium Batteries

The General Rules on Carrying Lithium Batteries on Aircraft

Passengers carrying PEDs (Personal Electronic Devices), such as cameras, phones, laptops, etc., containing lithium (-ion and metal) batteries must comply with the following rules:

Note 1 Items containing lithium batteries must comply with each test requirement of Section 38.3 of the United Nations 'Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III' for each lithium battery.
Note 2 The excess quantity must be approved by the airline before carried.
Note 3 Lithium metal batteries for non-medical purposes are prohibited from being carried.

For passengers who carried electronic devices installed with lithium batteries in checked baggage, please make sure that:

  • Measures must be taken to protect the device from damage and to prevent unintentional activation. (Wrapped with cloths/other cushioning material or packed in a rigid package)
  • The device must be completely switched off. (Not in stand by, sleep or hibernation mode)

Baggage Policy for Smart Baggage with Lithium (Lithium-Ion) Batteries:

Non-removable lithium batteries:
 
  • Batteries containing less than 0.3 g of lithium or with a capacity of under 2.7 Watt-hours, such as button cells:
    • Checked baggage: May be checked in.
    • Carry-on baggage: The smart baggage must comply with carry-on baggage regulations, and transmitting devices must comply with the electronic device use policy provided in our in-flight magazine.
  • Batteries containing more than 0.3 g of lithium or with a capacity of over 2.7 Watt-hours are prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage.
 
Removable lithium batteries:
 
  • Capacity of the lithium battery must be lower than 160 Watt-hours:
    • Checked baggage: The battery must be removed and carried as carry-on baggage.
    • Carry-on baggage: The smart baggage must comply with carry-on baggage regulations, and transmitting devices must comply with the electronic device use policy provided in our in-flight magazine.

  • The electronic cigarettes (e-pipes, e-cigars), heated tobacco, electronic cigarettes gasifiers, or electronic nicotine supplies must be carried in carry-on baggage but not checked baggage.
  • Electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco are prohibited throughout the flight.
  • For passengers entering Taiwan, carrying electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco are prohibited by Taiwan FDA and Customs.
  • For passengers traveling to and from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, strictly prohibited items include stun guns, compressed spray gas, and adjustable billies. These items, are strictly prohibited even in checked baggage. For more details please refer to this page.
