The A350 is Coming! China Airlines Seeks 100 Trainee Pilots
Published: Mar 06, 2016To cultivate the next generation of pilots and prepare for the coming of the all-new Airbus A350 aircraft, China Airlines took part in a campus recruitment event organized by the National Taiwan University (NTU) on March 6. The airline will also take part in other university recruitment events throughout Taiwan as part of its plan to recruit 100 trainee pilots this year (2016). China Airlines pilots who are a graduate of the NTU turned up to chat at length with students of their alma mater about their aviation dreams.
As China Airlines continues to expand its network and services, it is also stepping up recruitment. Apart from accepting pilot applications all year round, this year China Airlines also plans to recruit 100 maintenance engineers and 40 customer service staff in order to provide travelers with better and faster services. China Airlines is now in the midst of an aggressive fleet renewal program with all ten aircraft in the Boeing 777-300ER fleet to be delivered by May this year; deliveries of 14 Airbus A350 passenger aircraft will start in the third quarter of this year as well and the new aircraft are expected to fly to Amsterdam, Rome and Vienna. The A350 is the most advanced wide-body passenger aircraft in the world. Students who want to pilot the A350 in the future are encouraged to take the test.
China Airlines has always attached great importance to the cultivation of aviation talent. As the graduation season approaches, China Airlines plans to begin hosting recruitment sessions at nine universities from March onwards, these being National Tsing Hua University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Taiwan Normal University, National Taiwan University, National Sun Yat-sen University, National Cheng Kung University, National Taipei University of Technology, National Chiao Tung University and National Chung Cheng University. China Airlines will meet with graduates getting ready to join the workforce to talk about what it's like to work in the aviation industry, the examination requirements and the training process.
China Airlines began training pilots internally in 1988 and has trained more than 1000 pilots to date. The current requirements for Taiwan citizens applying to take the test for pilot training includes a TOEIC score of over 650 (listening score of 300) as well as score cards for TOEIC speaking and writing tests; trainee pilots that pass the selection process will be sent to a professional flying school overseas at the company's expense to undergo 10 to 12 months of basic flight training. Upon their return, they will undergo 12 months of civil aviation pre-training and type training; once they complete the two years of training and evaluation they will quality as a co-pilot and earn an average monthly salary of up to NT$200,000.
