1. Can China Airlines and Southwest Airlines issue a single ticket? +
Yes. Starting today, August 20, for travel on or after January 19, 2026, you can purchase combined itineraries with both China Airlines and Southwest Airlines on a single ticket directly through China Airlines’ website for a smoother, more convenient connection experience.
2. Do China Airlines and Southwest Airlines offer through baggage check and interline seat check-in services? +
Yes. Passengers who purchase a single ticket covering both China Airlines and Southwest Airlines flights can enjoy through baggage check to their final destination. However, you must claim your baggage at the first point of entry in the U.S. for customs clearance, then recheck it at the transfer area or airline counter. Interline Through Check-In (IATCI) is also available, allowing boarding passes and baggage check for subsequent flights at the first check-in point.

3. Which airports support connection between China Airlines and Southwest Airlines? +
Currently recommended connecting airports include Ontario (ONT), San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), Seattle (SEA), and Phoenix (PHX). These airports are served by both airlines and offer frequent flights with convenient connection flows, making them ideal for interline transfers.
4. Are TSA Pre✓® or other security facilitation programs available during connections? +
China Airlines participates in the One-Stop Security program at Taoyuan International Airport. Eligible travelers departing from the U.S. and transiting through Taipei to other Asian destinations can skip security re-screening in Taiwan, streamlining their transfer.

In addition, both China Airlines and Southwest Airlines are TSA Pre✓® members. Travelers with a Known Traveler Number (KTN/Pass ID) can enter it at the time of booking or check-in to enjoy expedited security screening at U.S. airports.

5. Can mileage be accrued across both airlines? +
A reciprocal mileage accrual program is under discussion. Further updates will be announced on the China Airlines and Southwest Airlines official websites.
6. Is Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service available for connecting itineraries? +
Southwest Airlines does not accept unaccompanied minors on interline itineraries. China Airlines will not accept bookings or ticketing for passengers aged 5–11 traveling alone on itineraries that include Southwest flights.
7. Is Young Passenger (YP) service available for connecting itineraries? +
Southwest Airlines does not accept unaccompanied minors under 18 on interline itineraries. China Airlines will not issue tickets for passengers aged 12–17 traveling alone on itineraries involving Southwest flights.
8. How can I book an itinerary including both China Airlines and Southwest Airlines? +
You can book via the China Airlines website, customer service hotline, or authorized travel agents. Simply input your final destination (e.g., Taipei or Manila) and the system will generate eligible connections including Southwest flights.
9. Can I select my seat when purchasing tickets? +
Seat selection is available for China Airlines flights after booking. Southwest Airlines currently offers open seating. For travel on and after January 27, 2026, Southwest will operate with assigned seating and Customers can select their seat.
10. Can I purchase value-added services like seat selection or baggage in advance? +
As the ticket includes a Southwest segment, advance purchase of additional checked baggage is not available. Seat selection is available for China Airlines, and Southwest Airlines currently offers open seating. For travel on and after January 27, 2026, Southwest will operate with assigned seating and Customers can select their seat.
11. Are fares for both airlines shown together on China Airlines' website? +
Yes. The China Airlines website shows the total fare, including tax, for itineraries combining both carriers—no need to book separately.
12. Where should I check in? +
Please check in at the operating airline’s counter on the day of departure. You will receive boarding passes and can check your baggage through to the destination. If connecting in the U.S., follow airport signs to your next gate.
13. Will I receive all boarding passes at check-in? +
Generally yes. You will receive boarding passes for all segments at check-in. If unavailable due to document requirements or system limitations, please contact airport staff at the transfer point.
14. What should I do if my connection time is short? +
We provide reasonable minimum connection times. Please proceed directly to security, and your next gate as soon as you deplane.
15. Can my baggage be checked through to my final destination in the U.S.? +
If issued on a single ticket, your baggage can be tagged to your final destination. However, you must claim your baggage at the first point of entry in the U.S. for customs clearance, then recheck it at the transfer area or airline counter.
16. What are the baggage allowance and weight limits? +
China Airlines: Two checked bags (23–32 kg each) depending on fare class. Southwest Airlines segment: checked bags for a fee and dependent on fare type purchased.
17. Will I go through security again when connecting in the U.S.? +
Yes. You must clear security again after customs when transferring within the U.S. Follow airport signage for security checkpoints and boarding gates.
18. What are the differences in in-flight services between the two airlines? +
China Airlines offers hot meals, personal entertainment, and long-haul amenities. Southwest Airlines offers complimentary beverages and snacks, inflight entertainment, and currently offers open seating. For travel on and after January 27, 2026, Southwest will operate with assigned seating and Customers can select their seat.
19. Does Southwest Airlines serve meals? +
Southwest Airlines provides complimentary beverage and snacks and does not offer hot meal service.
20. Can I access airport lounges during connections? +
Dynasty Flyer Program Paragon, Emerald, and Gold members, as well as Premium Business Class passengers flying on China Airlines, may access China Airlines lounges or partner lounges. Southwest Airlines does not offer lounge services.
21. What if I miss my connecting flight? +
If you hold a single ticket, China Airlines and Southwest Airlines will assist in rebooking you on the next available flight. Please contact airport ground staff immediately.
22. Who should I contact for delayed or damaged baggage? +
Please report baggage issues to the ground staff of the airline operating your final arrival segment. Be prepared to show your ticket, boarding pass, and baggage tag.
23. How do I request special assistance or travel with a pet? +
Requests for special meals, wheelchair service, or traveling with pets should be submitted to China Airlines at least 72 hours before departure. If the itinerary includes a U.S. domestic segment, we will coordinate with Southwest Airlines per applicable regulations.
24. Can I earn or redeem Dynasty Flyer miles for these itineraries? +
Miles can be earned on China Airlines segments. Currently, Southwest segments do not accrue mileage. Additionally, itineraries that include other carriers are not eligible for Dynasty Flyer mileage redemption.
25. Can I redeem Dynasty Flyer miles for Southwest Airlines flights? +
Mileage redemption for Southwest flights is not currently available. A frequent flyer partnership is under discussion.
26. Are extra baggage privileges for Dynasty Flyer members applicable to both airlines? +
China Airlines segment: Paragon, Emerald, and Gold members are eligible for additional baggage allowance. Southwest Airlines segment: Extra baggage allowance is NOT currently offered for Dynasty Flyer members.
27. As a non‑U.S. citizen transiting through the United States on a Southwest Airlines flight from Mexico, do I need a visa for the U.S.? +
You must hold one of the following : A valid U.S. transit (C‑1) visa or a valid visitor (B‑1/B‑2) visa, unless you are eligible for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) with an approved ESTA.
