China Airlines (CAL), a Taiwan-based carrier, has announced that it will begin operations at The New Terminal One at New York John F. Kennedy International Airport next year. President Kevin Chen traveled personally to New York for the partnership ceremony on July 7, Eastern Time. China Airlines will join forces with key local partners to provide travelers with a fresh new service experience. The move represents the great importance China Airlines places on the North American market as well as a key milestone in the development of the New York route.

China Airlines has been developing the North American market for more than half a century. First inaugurated in 1983, the Taoyuan - New York route has been operating for more than 40 years and serves as a key hub in the carrier's long-term strategy in North America. The New Terminal One at JFK, which is being constructed, integrates innovative technology and world-class design. From check-ins to security screenings to departures and transits, everything is geared to providing travelers with greater convenience and less stress. The diverse shopping and dining spaces which incorporate the rich local cultural heritage of New York will transform the time that travelers spend at the airport, making extended waits seem more like pleasurable pauses.

A number of sustainable design features are being introduced with the new terminal. These include the largest solar panel system of any US airport terminal, 100% electric-powered ground service equipment (eGSE), and rainwater capture for landscape irrigation. The terminal’s commitment to environmental friendliness is perfectly aligned with China Airlines’ longstanding philosophy and promotion of sustainable development. By announcing its intention to become a tenant early, China Airlines is embracing its philosophy of touching every moment by enhancing the long-term flying experience.

China Airlines is optimistic about demand for travel between Taiwan and the US as well as demand from transit travelers. The network has been actively expanded so that it now flies to six large cities in the United States including New York, Los Angeles, Ontario, San Francisco, and Seattle, as well as Vancouver, Canada. More than 40 round-trip flights a week are offered to and from the U.S. and Canada. Integration with extensive regional networks offering nearly 500 return flights each week for transit travelers traveling to and from Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.
