    China Airlines Cuts Excess Baggage Charges Even Further for Overseas Shoppers

    China Airlines announced further cuts to excess baggage fees for zones on the weight system. The changes will take effect from October 1 for Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Greater China, Europe and Oceania flights (not USA/Canada). European routes in particular will have their excess baggage charges slashed by more than 70%.

    In July, China Airlines introduced 10kg of extra checked luggage allowance for all classes on Asia (including Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and China), Australia/New Zealand and Europe flights using the weight system. Excess baggage charges still applied if the allowance was exceeded however. To better cater to traveler needs, China Airlines announced that it is reducing excess baggage charges even further. The reductions will hopefully enhance competitiveness of China Airlines' service offerings.

    Japan, for example, is the most popular destination for Taiwanese travelers. From October onwards, excess charges will be reduced from USD 15 to USD 6 per kilogram. This is far lower than the charges levied by other airlines; on long-distance routes to Europe, the excess charge was previously USD 50 per kilogram. From October onwards, this will be just USD 15 per kilogram, a reduction of up to 70%. This is the lowest of any airline in Taiwan and simplifies packing hassles for travelers.

    Excess baggage charges are based on the weight at the counter and calculated using local exchange rates on the day.
