China Airlines, a Taiwan-based carrier, will soon introduce a fleet of brand-new Boeing 787 passenger jets. The cabin design has been revamped so that it not only maintains “The Theme of Oriental Aesthetics” but is also imbued with touches of home through distinctive local scenery and cultural motifs, creating a familiar feel with new surprises. The Premium Economy cabin aboard the China Airlines 787 is inspired by the theme “Starlit Mountain City“. The clever use of colors, materials, as well as the interplay of light and shadow, present an elegant fusion of local culture and technology through which travelers can experience the energy and warmth of Taiwan's cities during their flight.
The all-new China Airlines 787 passenger aircraft features 28 seats in Premium Economy Class in a 2-3-2 seating configuration. The “Mountain City Nightscape” seat covers subtly shift under ambient lighting, inspired by the luminous atmosphere of Jiufen after dark. Metallic chrome detailing paired with warm leather textures creates a refined balance between contemporary technology and cultural warmth. The exclusive 6-way headrest with integrated surround shielding provides travelers with privacy and comfort in their personal space. The leather footrest under the seat enhances comfort on long-haul flights.
The tray table retains the persimmon wood grain identification system used across China Airlines fleets, inspired by traditional Taiwanese symbolism associated with prosperity and fulfillment. It also comes with an anti-slip surface coating for both aesthetics and practicality. For the convenience of travelers with personal mobile devices, the tray table can also serve as a mobile phone and tablet stand. The personal entertainment system is equipped with a 15.6" 4K high-definition display. Bluetooth connectivity for smart devices is also supported, an industry-first, so that mobile phones and tablets can be used to control the in-flight entertainment system. Pairing with Bluetooth headphones is supported so that travelers can enjoy the onboard audio-visual content with their own personal devices. Each seat also comes with a rose-gold reading lamp to give each reading or dining session a sophisticated touch.
China Airlines aimed to create a premium flying experience through its heartfelt upgrades to the Premium Economy Class products. In addition to thoughtful services such as lightweight porcelain utensils, individually packaged napkins, two-toned blankets, slippers, and noise-reducing over-ear headphones, complimentary Wi-Fi offering a service level consistent with Business Class with support for unlimited web browsing and messaging is available. China Airlines also partnered with Marc Jacobs, the New York-based fashion house, and FRAMA, the Danish skincare, lifestyle and furniture brand, to launch an all-new travel kit. Every aspect of flying from airport check-in to in-flight amenities to catering design to service process has been optimized to provide travelers with a premium experience approaching that of Business Class.
China Airlines, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), and GQ Taiwan are collaborating on the creation of the COMPUTEX Service Lounge. The benchmark setting design for public spaces will be showcased at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Hall 2 during COMPUTEX 2026 from June 2 to June 5. During the opening ceremony of the exhibition area, China Airlines Chairman Kao, Shing-Hwang and President Kevin Chen unveiled to the public the Premium Economy Class seating for the all-new 787 Passenger Aircraft. All visitors holding an exhibitor badge are eligible, including exhibitors, international visitors, media VIPs, and on-site exhibition staff, to be among the first to experience the comfort and quality of the Premium Economy Class seating. Themed workshops will also be held every afternoon by China Airlines over the exhibition period. Airline industry professionals will share and network with the audience to promote the business philosophy of China Airlines' passenger and cargo services. (2026/06/02)
