Sporting Equipment

Bicycles
  • Need to contact CI offices at the time of booking. 
  • Only non-motorized touring or racing single-seat bicycle is allowed. 
  • Tires should be deflated. 
  • Bicycle must be packed in a sturdy box or proper bike travel bag. 
  • Unsuitable packing that might cause damage to other checked baggage or to the bike itself is unacceptable.
Surfboards/Windsurfing Equipment and Body-boards/Canoe and Kayak
  • Need to contact CI offices for giving information of the weight and dimensions of your equipment at the time of booking, so we can determine if it is can be accepted for transportation.
  • All contents in one container must be packed with bubble wrap or any other packing material which could be helpful in protecting package contents from colliding with each other.
Scuba Diving Equipment
  • Need to contact CI offices at the time of booking.
  • Scuba tank must be empty.
  • All contents in one container must be packed with bubble wrap or any other packing material which could be helpful in protecting package contents from colliding with each other.
Sporting Firearms & Ammunition
  • Need to contact CI offices at least 5 working days prior to the date of travel.
  • Appropriate documentation and licenses required, including but not limited to, export/import licenses/permits and authorization from related authorities of both sides.
  • Personal use only.
  • Ammunition is packed in either its original packaging or in a suitable container that prevents movement between shells or cartridges (i.e. loose ammunition is not permitted).
  • Quantity restrictions and rules:
    - Rifles: Each gun case may contain at most 2 rifles and 5 kg (11 lb) of ammunition. Ammunition must be packed inside a rigid and shatter-proof container. No loose ammunition is allowed.
    - Pistols: Each gun case may contain at most 5 pistols and 5 kg (11 lb) of ammunition. Ammunition must be packed inside a rigid and shatter-proof container. No loose ammunition is allowed.
Golf/Angling and Fishing Equipment/Snow ski and Water ski or Wakeboard Equipment/Hockey and Lacrosse Equipment/Archery Equipment Bowling Equipment/Hang-gliding Equipment/Kitesurfing Equipment/Paragliding Equipment

Charge of Sporting equipment (The actual collection amount is calculated based on the departure date's local currency exchange rate)

 
  1. Need to contact CI offices at the time of booking.
  2. China Airlines can accept most sports equipment. Sporting equipment can be included as part of your free checked baggage allowance. Checked baggage that exceeds the standard weight restrictions and/or number of checked baggage exceeds the free baggage allowance is subject to applicable excess baggage fees. If your sporting equipment set packed into separate pieces of baggage will not be considered a single piece of baggage.
  3. Transporting sporting equipment as checked baggage, if the total dimensions of each sporting equipment exceed 292cm(115in), 2 pieces of excess baggage charge rate should be applied and can be accepted as checked baggage subject to space availability of cargo cabin on the flight (The charges please check Excess Baggage).
  4. All contents in one container must be packed with bubble wrap or any other packing material which could be helpful in protecting package contents from colliding with each other.
  5. China Airlines is not liable if and to the extent that the delay, loss or damage resulted from the inherent defect, quality or vice of the Baggage.
  6. The following types of sports equipment only have a weight limit, and the total size of length / width / height is not limited. (Sporting equipment other than those below listed exceptions should be charged as general regulation):

Example

Suppose an Economy Class traveler holding an RBD M ticket (checked baggage allowance: 2 pieces, 23 kg each) flies from Taipei to Los Angeles, U.S., and checks in two pieces of baggage (20 kg and 23 kg) and one set of surfboard(sum of length, width and height is 300 cm, weighs 15 kg). Because the surfboard does not exceed the weight limit of 23 kg for a single piece of baggage and it is included in sport equipment exceptions without size limit, passenger will only need to pay a one-time excess baggage charge US$ 180.
