Published: Feb 15, 2016

China Airlines continues to garner international accolades with its NexGen fleet designs. The Red Dot Design Award from Germany and Good Design Award from Japan are now joined by more honors from the iF Design Award in Germany. The 777-300ER Cabin Interiors, IFE GUI Design, tableware, Sky Lounge designer packaging and the VIP lounge at Terminal 1 of the Taoyuan International Airport have won five iF Design Awards representing yet another international design triumph of Taiwan’s soft power in cultural creativity.
The iF Design Award 2016 will be presented in Munich on February 26. China Airlines is the first airline from Taiwan to be featured at the iF Design Award and will receive awards for five designs, including the NexGen 777 cabin with its persimmon wood grain finish and reading lamp that recreates the ambiance and aesthetics of an Asian scholar’s study; 777 tableware consisting of delightful Song Dynasty plates, Yuan Dynasty bowls, Qing Dynasty porcelain and high-tech landscape bowls; Sky Lounge desserts from Taiwan in golden packaging and classical red stamps that combine fashion with cultural creativity; and the NexGen VIP Lounge at Terminal 1 of Taoyuan International Airport inspired by the courtyard gardens of Jiangnan that successfully meld classical traditions with modern aesthetics.

The iF Design Award was established in 1953 and ranks alongside the Red Dot Design Award and the U.S. IDEA Award as the top three design awards in the world. There are seven categories and there were 5295 entries from more than 50 countries this year. Only around 30% of entries were awarded. The judging criteria for the iF Design Award encompasses design quality, craftsmanship, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental friendliness, functionality, ergonomics, operational visualization, safety, brand value and brand design.
