Despite a very difficult 2020 for the aviation industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic, China Airlines has continued to make every effort to fulfill its corporate social responsibility in the areas of Economy/Governance, Environment and Society. China Airlines was the first airline in Taiwan to implement a sustainability audit program, to release an independent report based on the framework set-out by the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures, and to obtain both the Carbon Label and Carbon Reduction Label. In October 2021, China Airlines also announced its goal of reaching net zero-carbon emissions by 2050. A number of charter flights were also dispatched to repatriate overseas Taiwanese nationals and deliver medical supplies across the world in support of international rescue efforts. Other initiatives such as end-of-year banquets, senior citizen welfare and rural education campaigns all made a significant and positive contribution to sustainability.

This year, China Airlines was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the 6th consecutive year and placed 2nd in the global aviation industry, a new record for the carrier. China Airlines was also included in the FTSE4Good Emerging Index for the 6th time and the FTSE4Good TIP Taiwan ESG Index for the 3rd time. Corporate sustainability will remain a focus for China Airlines as it carries out its mission of “becoming the preferred airline of Taiwan”. (2021/11/17)
