China Airlines A350 Scores a Double Win at TheDesignAir 2016 International Awards

Published: Jan 09, 2017

TheDesignAir, the world-renowned, international aviation design review website, has announced the winners of “TheDesignAir Readers Poll Awards 2016” and “TheDesignAir Awards 2016.” The NexGen product from China Airlines wooed the judges and global readers with its novel design aesthetics and joined the premium business class of the all-new A350 aircraft to make it a double for design awards. China Airlines was the only Taiwanese carrier to be included in the list of award winners, raising the international profile of Taiwan brands once again.

TheDesignAir was founded by senior aviation brand consultant Jonny Clark in 2012, in the U.S., and is focused on discussion of aviation cabin designs and overall branding. This was the fourth year that airline brands have been compared by TheDesignAir. Frequently featured in aviation industry publications and the international media, it has become the new yardstick for design aesthetics in the international aviation industry. Voting was sorted by categories for the first time this year as well, with readers around the world voting for best cabin, livery, uniform and VIP lounge. China Airlines scored a double win with its NexGen product and the new A350 aircraft winning the “2016 Best Business Class Design” and the “2016 Best New Business Class” awards respectively.

This year China Airlines became the first in the Taiwanese aviation industry to introduce the latest Airbus A350-900 XWB medium/long-range passenger aircraft, touted for being the “most high-tech, most energy efficient, most eco-friendly, most spacious and least noisy.” In a departure from the dark tones of conventional cabin designs, youthful and innovative elements were introduced for the new aircraft, with different metallic textures combined to give the cabin a modern, contemporary feel. The cabin features raised ceilings and an open-plan layout with separate, personal spaces. Smart ergonomic seats can be tailored to passenger needs and are conducive to deep sleep. These thoughtful design touches won the praise of travelers worldwide.

The China Airlines A350 NexGen fleet has won numerous accolades since it was launched in September 2016. These include five awards (Premium Business Class Seat, Premium Economy Class Seat, Sky Lounge, Mood Lighting, and In-Flight Entertainment GUI) at the “Good Design Award” in Japan, considered one of the top four international design awards, as well as the U.S. Global Traveler award for “Best Business Class Seat Design.” (2017/01/09)
