Infant

  • Definition: infants are defined as being under 2 years old (on the boarding date).
  • Newborn infants, who are more than 14 days old and accompanied by adults, can travel on our company’s flights. For healthy concerns, we do not accept newborn infants within 14 days old for any flight under any circumstance. 
  • We provide a limited number of bassinets for infants in-flight (except model A321neo). Bassinets are designed and can be used only for infants measuring less than 71cm/28 inches and weighing less than 11kg/24.2 pounds. 
  • Passengers travelling with infants have priority to sit in the bulkhead seat that has more space to place the bassinet. 
  • We encourage you to request for a bassinet when you book an infant ticket, as only a limited number of bassinets and bulkhead seats are available on board and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If an infant travels with an adult and does not occupy a seat, the infant will be charged the infant fare.
  • If one adult travels with two infants, one child fare ticket must be purchased for an occupied seat.(please contact CI’s local office or travel agency to purchase such tickets) The infant must sit in a safety seat.  Please refer to the Child Safety Seat below for more instructions about the specifications and the usage of the safety seat.

Unaccompanied Teenage Passenger

Unaccompanied teenager passengers aged 12-17 can request airport clearance assistance as needed by submitting an application and paying the fee at least 24 hours before flight departure.

Pregnant Passengers

 30th - 35th week (Single Pregnancy)
  1. Medical Clearance Form and Medical Certificate in English or Chinese must be signed by a qualified obstetrician and dated within 10 days of departure flight with the following information:
    • Fetal health status
    • Pregnancy stage (in weeks) and the estimated delivery date
    • Single or multiple pregnancy
    • Fitness for air travel
  2. Must contact the China Airlines Reservation Center to obtain medical clearance and confirm booking by submitting the require documents at least 2 working days (excluding weekends and holidays) before your scheduled flight departure.
  3. For return or continuing flight that is within two weeks of the departure date, the approval for fly may be granted with initial application with the departure flight application.
 30th - 31th week (Multiple Pregnancy)
 After 36th week (Single Pregnancy)
 Not accepted onboard
 After 32th week (Multiple Pregnancy)
 Within the 14 days after giving birth

Notes

  • For flight safety and health of the passenger, pregnant passengers need to inform our reservation staff of the expected date of delivery, single or multiple pregnancy and a strong recommendation that all pregnant passengers carry their prenatal medical records with the required information while travelling.
  • Pregnant passengers who violate the regulations or submit false information may potentially cause significant disruption and expense to the airline and other passengers, China Airlines reserves the right to recover its costs (including, but not limited to flight diversion, delay claims, etc.) though legal actions.

Stretcher

  • In order to care for passengers who must remain in a reclined position during the flight, China Airlines may provide charged in-flight stretcher services.
  • Passengers who wish to travel by in-flight stretcher need to obtain approval from our medical department before departure by submitting the Medical Certificate by a qualified attending physician and dated within 10 days of departure flight; additional Medical Summary or medical charts are required if passenger received operation or has been admitted in the hospital within the past 2 weeks; for instance, if the departure date is Mar 29, the "Medical Clearance Form" and "Medical Certificate" issuance date must be dated after Mar 20 (inclusive).
  • Passengers who use stretchers must be accompanied by at least one physically fit adult (medical escorts if deemed necessary by China Airlines) in order to provide care during the flight. The accompanying person must sit next to the stretcher passenger.
  • To comply with Taiwan Regulation of Infectious Disease Control, we will submit all in-bound stretcher passengers’ medical documents together with special immigration/custom clearance application to Taiwan Centre of Disease Control (CDC).
Note:
  1. Stretcher passengers will only be accepted in the Economy Class Cabin.
  2. Please get in touch with our booking departments at least two working days (excluding weekends and holidays) prior to the flight departure date to complete application/booking/ticketing for passengers who need assistance of in-flight stretcher.
Applicable fare:
  1. For a stretcher passenger : The highest one-way RBD Y economy published adult fare shall be applied.
  2. For a stretcher equipment : 9 times the highest one-way RBD Y economy published adult fare shall be applied.

On-board Medical Oxygen

  1. The built-in oxygen supply systems on our aircraft are strictly designed for emergency situations. If a passenger anticipates that they will need oxygen during a normal flight, China Airlines will provide a supply for that individual who will have to complete the following procedures -
    A. Fill in Medical Clearance Form which is signed by a licensed doctor and dated within 10 days; and 
    B. Request must be made and approved at least two working days (excluding weekends and holidays) prior to the flight departure date.
    Besides, we suggest a passenger who needs oxygen must be accompanied by adult passenger if medical treatment is required during the flight.
  2. We provide above mentioned Medical Oxygen Service onboard with the following charges paid by passenger –
    A. There is a US$200 charge per oxygen bottle in each flight segment; and
    B. As additional seat(s) is required for accommodation of oxygen bottle on board, a seat charge will have to be paid by passenger,
    For payment for the charge per oxygen bottle and additional seat charge for accommodation of oxygen bottle, please contact our ticketing office for details.
  3. The above mentioned oxygen service does not include oxygen needs on the ground. Oxygen on the ground including before departure/during transfer and after arrival should be arranged by passenger his/herself.
  4. Due to flight safety concerned, passenger who request oxygen onboard cannot be assigned on seat on emergency exit row.

Portable Electronic Medical Equipment

Passengers who need to bring electronic medical equipment (such as oxygen generators, suction devices, apparatus respirators, etc.)on board because of health conditions must contact our company's reservation office at least two working days (excluding weekends and holidays) before departure to explain the passenger's condition as well as complete the advanced notification procedure. Below are the main remarks regarding bringing portable electronic medical equipment on broad (not applicable to the code-shared flights that are not operated by China Airlines):

  • Please notify China Airlines about any portable electronic medical equipment that you will bring on board at least at least two working days (excluding weekends and holidays) prior to the flight departure date. Please follow the service staff’s instructions to complete all necessary procedures. 
  • Fill out the Medical Clearance Form and Medical certificate which is signed by a licensed doctor and dated within 10 days of departure flight. For instance, if the departure date is Mar 29, the "Medical Clearance Form" and Medical certificate issuance date must be dated after Mar 20 (inclusive). If the passenger received an operation or has been admitted to the hospital within two weeks, a summary of medical records is required so that we can provide you with a safety assessment. The passenger must be accompanied by a medical staff or adult who is capable of operating and fastening the medical equipment that is brought on board.
  • For the brand and the model of the medical equipment, please refer to the China Airlines On Board Medical Equipment Table (verified through RTCA-Requirement and Technical Concepts for Aviation), and the device must have the manufacturer‘s trademark for the CI staff identification. In addition to the models listed in the table, other POCs that have a label indicating "RTCA/DO-160~ Section 21 Category M Compliant FAA Approved" or "The manufacturer of this POC has determined this device conforms to all applicable FAA acceptance criteria for POC carriage and use on board aircraft." will be accepted to be carried and used on board.
  • Passengers with sleep apnea can carry the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure(CPAP) on board without the Medical Clearance Form and should comply with Carry-on baggage and Dangerous Good Regulations of Air Transport.Timing of using the CPAP is the same as Electronic Devices Regulation.
  • Charging equipment is not permitted on board, spare batteries must be brought on board following China Airline’s regulations. Additionally, they must meet the provisions in the Dangerous Good Regulations of Air Transport.
  • A stretcher passenger's medical equipment must be fixed under the stretcher at the bottom of the seat. A non-stretcher passenger's medical equipment must be fixed at the bottom of the front seat. It must be fastened by an extended seat belt.
  • Humidifiers connected to medical devices can be used onboard. Vapor or incense emitted from personal humidifiers or air purifiers is strictly prohibited.
  • Please complete the check-in procedure as soon as possible on the boarding date and arrive at the boarding gate early so that the airport staff will have enough time to make arrangements for you. 
  • Passengers shall also comply with the destination country's regulations on portable electronic medical devices, if any.

When do you need Extra Seat Service?

  1. When you feel more relief and comfortable if the adjacent seat is vacant.
  2. When you feel you need extended seat belt is more suitable than standard seat belt for you.
