China Airlines Exclusive: André Chiang Serves Up “Oriental Beauty ” Aboard the A350

Published: Dec 08, 2016

The new China Airlines A350 new aircraft will commence direct flights to Amsterdam and Vienna in Europe from January 9 next year. To provide a superior in-flight catering experience, China Airlines has partnered with the internationally renowned chef André Chiang by inviting Chiang to consult on the catering for A350. The result is “Oriental Beauty”, a limited-edition gourmet menu designed exclusively for China Airlines.

“Oriental Beauty” is a soup dish presented as a consommé made from Oriental ingredients. The clear soup will be a surprising delight that feels tantalizingly familiar with its rich layers of flavors; Chef Chiang personally selected spices and flavors unique to Asia before creating the soup stock from nearly 30 ingredients including sweet shrimp, scallops, asparagus and tofu. These weave together into a strong yet clear Oriental flavor sensation with Taiwanese roots that warms the hearts of international travelers. Business Class travelers on the first flight by A350 from Taoyuan to Amsterdam and Vienna on January 9 next year will be treated to the “Oriental Beauty.” This star-grade cuisine will also be offered on selected flights at different times in the future.

André Chiang is the first Michelin-rated chef in Taiwan and was presented with the Ten Outstanding Youth Award this year. He trained in France for many years and was twice praised by the US Time magazine as the greatest chef in the Indian Ocean. The Elite Traveler magazine also counted him among “The 15 Most Influential Chefs of the Next Decade.” After Chiang opened “Restaurant ANDRE” in Singapore in 2010, The New York Times rated among the “10 Restaurants Worth a Plane Ride.” It was also included in the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” for six consecutive years. This year, it won a rating of 2 stars in the “Michelin Guide”; at the end of 2014, Chiang opened the “RAW” restaurant in Taiwan which introduced the Bistronomy dining format from Paris, in France. Local seasonal ingredients and an international lexicon of cuisine re-defined the taste of modern Taiwan and showcased the island to the world. “RAW” was included in the “Asia's 50 Best Restaurants” in its opening year.

The new China Airlines A350 aircraft will soon begin flying on European routes with 16 flights a week and at least 2 direct flights to Europe every day, making China Airlines the premier brand in Taiwan for direct flights to Europe. In addition to its collaboration with Chiang to serve the “Oriental Beauty” soup on the first direct flights to Amsterdam and Vienna flown by the A350, China Airlines will also continue to provide travelers with an extensive variety of innovative in-flight cuisine. The Sky Bistro will serve up tapas and other creative cuisine to travelers around the world flying to Europe. The Western gourmet food and handpicked wine list will see the journey in the clouds get off to a wonderful start with all the favorite classics.
