According to IATA Resolution 302, the following steps process should apply for interline journeys.
- ● If the published baggage provisions among all participating carriers are the same; these provisions will apply.
- ● Where the one or more published baggage provisions differ between participating carriers, apply any common provisions and where provisions differ the published baggage provisions of the “Most Significant Carrier” (MSC) apply. If this is a code-share flight, apply baggage provision of the marketing carrier unless that carrier publishes a rule stipulating that it will be the operating carrier.
- ● If the MSC does not publish its baggage provisions, apply the rule of the Check-in carrier.
- ● If the Check-in carrier does not publish its baggage provisions, apply the baggage provisions of each operating carrier sector-by-sector.
According to the regulations of the Canadian Transport Agency, when the departure or destination of a passenger's ticket itinerary is within the Canada, the first carrier on the ticket determines its free baggage allowance and related charges (including code-share flights). For example, if a passenger’s itinerary is Toronto-{AC}-Vancouver-{CI}-Taipei-{CI}-Ho Chi Minh City-{CI}-Taipei-{CI}- Vancouver -{AC}- Toronto, as the first segment takes Air Canada flight, the whole journey, including China Airlines segments and the return journey, must follow the Air Canada baggage policy.
At present, checked baggage is inspected at all U.S. commercial airports when you travel into and out of the U.S.. You will not have further access to your baggage once the authorities have screened them. Before you hand over your baggage for screening, please remove all the belongings you will need on board.
- ● As advised by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA), passengers are asked to leave their baggage UNLOCKED to facilitate the inspection procedure. TSA will not be liable for any damage caused to locked baggage if it is opened as part of the screening procedure.
- ● In the event that TSA screeners open your baggage during the screening procedure, they will close it with a tamper-evident seal and place a notice on your baggage alerting you that TSA screeners have opened your baggage for inspection.
- ● As this procedure is governed by U.S. legislation and beyond our control, China Airlines will not be liable for any damage to or any item loss from your baggage.
- ● For various regulations of U.S. authorities and TSA, please access the TSA website (in English only). Especially if you intend to bring some special items such as compressed gas cylinders, paintball equipment, or scuba equipment, we suggest that you browse the website in addition to checking airlines rules or contact TSA contact center directly.
Please be aware that the privilege of extra baggage allowance applies exclusively to the SkyTeam Airlines’ sectors only, if your connecting flights are non- SkyTeam Airlines, there might be a possibility that an excess-baggage fee will be collected by the non-SkyTeam Airlines for such extra check-in baggage.
