Published: Mar 31, 2019

China Airlines added Nagoya, Japan, as a new freight destination on March 30. Two weekly flights (Thu, Sat) will be flown by B747-400F freighter aircraft. This new route will fly from Taipei to final destination Los Angeles/San Francisco then return to Taiwan via Nagoya. The freighter network will benefit from the increased flexibility and the addition of the Nagoya station.

The Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) in Nagoya is located in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. As the primary gateway of Nagoya and the Chubu region, the airport services by extensive domestic and international air links. Only a limited number of freighter services utilize Nagoya at the moment. Most cargo must be transshipped to Tokyo and Osaka for export. The introduction of regular freighter services to Nagoya by China Airlines will allow local manufacturers to export their goods directly instead of having to pay for transportation by land to other nearby airports.

China Airlines is now one of the leaders in international air cargo. According to data collected by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) 1,462,000 tonnes of international air freight were carried by China Airlines in 2017, a growth of 10.3% over the previous year (2016) was achieved placing China Airlines the seventh in the world. China Airlines was also one of the top 10 freight carriers by achieving 5,741 million tonne-kilometers, an increase of 8.9% over the previous year. China Airlines reported cargo revenues of TWD 49.749 billion in 2018, an increase of 15% over the same period in 2017.

China Airlines is working actively to take advantage of developments in freight and cargo sources. The belly cargo on 777 and A350 passenger aircraft together with the freighter fleet are being harnessed to further develop regional markets and optimize transportation services between Europe, the Americas and Asia. Closer cooperation with partner airlines and major international cargo agents is also being pursued to provide better quality air cargo services.
