October 29, 2010, Taipei, Taiwan – China Airlines Group and China Southern Airlines today jointly launched codesharing cooperation on flights between Taiwan and mainland China, providing passengers with more convenient choices and better flight schedules. This history-making codesharing program is the first of its kind ever operated by carriers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and encompasses cross-strait flights operated by the CAL Group’s China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines, and China Southern Airlines. The codesharing cooperation routes include flights from Taoyuan International Airport to Shanghai-Pudong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Changsha and Shenyang. Starting today, passengers traveling between Taoyuan and Shanghai-Pudong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen may make reservations and issue tickets at any China Airlines customer service office, major travel agency or through CAL’s website at www.china-airlines.com, while passengers traveling between Taoyuan and Zhengzhou, Changsha and Shenyang may reserve and issue tickets starting December 2. China Airlines Group and China Southern Airlines are actively working to expand codesharing cooperation to even more routes in the future. The codesharing program is the latest development in a long history of cooperation between China Airlines and China Southern Airlines, which are both working to strengthen and expand the scope of their cooperative relationship. The two carriers signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in 2008 and a Strategic Cooperation Agreement in 2010, which provided for inter-line check-in, passenger baggage check-through, mileage rewards program cooperation, inter-line ticket issuance, special cargo prorate cooperation and cargo space swaps, as well as aircraft maintenance cooperation and a flight attendant training exchange program. China Southern Airlines is also a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, which China Airlines is in the process of joining following the signing of an Adherence Agreement in September. In addition to China Southern Airlines, China Airlines also operates codeshare cooperation with Delta Air Lines, Alitalia, Garuda Indonesia, Thai Airways, Vietnam Airlines, Korean Air, Czech Airlines, as well as Deutsche Bahn German Rail System. Negotiations are underway to expand cooperation with other carriers.
