China Airlines celebrated its 60th anniversary on 7/26 by hosting the "China Airlines 60 to Go Charity Meet & Greet with Jeremy Lin" at the Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport Hotel. NBA star Jeremy Lin was invited to be the special guest at the charity meet & greet session with indigenous children from Sanmin Tribal Village in Taoyuan City's Fuxing District, along with fans of China Airlines' Facebook page. During the session, Lin shared his elation at winning his first NBA championship, and the journey leading up to the win.

China Airlines is a longstanding supporter of sports development in Taiwan. The airline supports athletes from Taiwan competing in the international sporting arena under the philosophy of "China Airlines supports Taiwan’s heroes." The airline has collaborated with Jeremy Lin on charity events every year since 2012. Jeremy Lin personally wished China Airlines a "Happy 60th Birthday" as this year marked the 60th anniversary of the airline’s founding. "We are delighted to invite Jeremy Lin to share with us the story of his epic journey. It will hopefully encourage everyone here today to believe in their dreams and face challenges head-on. China Airlines will embrace the same spirit of relentless dedication for the next 60 years as well" said Chen-min Wang, Senior Vice President of China Airlines.

Nearly 200 guests attended the event including indigenous children from Sanmin Tribal Village in Taoyuan City's Fuxing District, fans of China Airlines Facebook page chosen through a public draw, and employees of China Airlines. Lin shared his story on making playing in the NBA his dream and the journey to his first NBA championship ring this year (2019). He also related how he continued to motivate himself when sidelined due to injury, how he got himself through the slump and continued to pursue his dream one step at a time. Lin then answered questions from fans. In addition to a lucky draw for fans to win basketball and basketball caps signed by Jeremy Lin, every guest at the event received a China Airlines 60th anniversary commemorative fan as well.

China Airlines has always striven to fulfill its corporate social responsibility. This includes helping disadvantaged groups in society through its aviation expertise and resources. The China Airlines Volunteering Club established in 2011 regularly visits nearby schools to teach aviation knowledge and English. The Club also organizes charity events such as coastal clean-ups that demonstrate the airline's commitment to giving back to the community and protecting the environment. A "Love Goes Around" program was launched by pilots and cabin crews on their own initiative in 2014 as well. To encourage schoolchildren in remote rural regions to cultivate an international perspective, the volunteers have so far traveled to 42 elementary/junior high schools and social welfare organizations in 22 townships and 12 counties/cities throughout Taiwan where they reached out to 2,726 students. All volunteer groups at China Airlines will continue to give back to society in tangible ways through a variety of charitable initiatives. (2019/07/29)
