Q.
How many miles do I need for an upgrade award or free award ticket?
How to calculate required mileage
for a class upgrade awards?
A.
Here we are using an itinerary Hong Kong-Taipei-Los Angeles as an example:.
Let’s suppose that a passenger flies from Los
Angeles to Taipei on CI005, then transfers to Hong
Kong on CI641. Assuming that neither flight involves
blackout dates, the passenger would need 30,000 miles
to upgrade form Economy Class to Dynasty Class from
Los Angeles to Taipei and 15,000 miles from Taipei
to Hong Kong. Therefore, the total mileage required
for the upgrade in the journey from Los Angeles to
Hong Kong via Taipei would be 45,000 miles.
