China Airlines Launches Urumqi and Lijiang Flights
CAL e-News

China Airlines launched its Taoyuan-Urumqi service on June 25, the longest flight time between Taiwan and China at around six hours; 26 June, it added another route to its cross-strait flight network, Taoyuan-Lijiang, just in time for the summer travel season. The roundtrip service between Taiwan and Urumqi in Xinjiang, northwestern China, is offered on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, while the roundtrip service between Taiwan and Lijiang in Yunnan province, at 3 hours and 45 minutes each way, is offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. China Airlines plans to operate its Taoyuan-Urumqi route with Airbus 330-300 aircraft, equipped with 30 business class seats and 277 economy class seats, and its Taoyuan-Lijiang route with a Boeing 737-800, which has a capacity of eight business class seats and 150 economy class seats.

Urumqi, which means “beautiful pasture” is located in central Xinjiang and has historically been a transportation hub connecting central Asia and continental Europe. Because of its unique geographic location, Urumqi has a distinctive architectural style that’s also reflective of its Uyghur population. Lijiang, located in northwestern Yunnan, is famous for its old town, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Although popular with tourists all year round, Lijiang is most beautiful in the spring and summer because of a heavy mist that cloaks the ancient city.

To give passengers a taste of local culture, China Airlines will offer Halal meals on its Taoyuan-Urumqi flights. To celebrate the new services to Urumqi and Lijiang, China Airlines served Xinjiang-style yogurt on the inaugural Taoyuan-Urumqi flight and will be serving Yunnan rice noodles on the first Taoyuan-Lijiang flight.

China Airlines is offering promotional deals on its website for roundtrip Taoyuan-Urumqi and Taoyuan-Lijiang flights, starting at NT$19,600 (pre-tax) and NT$13,100 (pre-tax), respectively. Dynasty Package is offering three-day, two-night flight and accommodation packages starting at NT$21,700 (pre-tax) for Xinjiang and NT$13,650 for Lijiang (pre-tax). Travelers will also receive Luobuma tea from Xinjiang or Imperial Pu-erh tea from Lijiang as a gift. Travelers can call China Airlines Customer Service at 412-9000 or participating travel agencies to enquire about packages.

The China Airlines Group operates more flights between Taiwan and China than any other airline. Its extensive cross-strait flight network spans northeast, northern, central, southern, and southwestern China, as well as Hainan Island. After adding Urumqi and Lijiang to its network, China Airlines now offers 113 weekly flights to 26 destinations in Taiwan and China, giving business travelers and tourists more options and convenience.
