| CAL e-News December 19, 2011, Taipei, Taiwan ¡V China Airlines today launched new office and service facilities at Taipei Songshan International Airport. At the opening ceremony, China Airlines President Huang-Hsiang Sun was joined by Taipei International Airport Director Yang Guo-feng, Taipei Customs Office Director Ray-Yu Tseng, Aviation Police Office Security Brigade Chief Pan Han-ping, and Travel Agent Association of R.O.C. Taiwan Chairman Yao Ta-kuang. China Airlines check-in counters at Taipei Songshan International Airport have expanded to two counters (counters 5 and 6) in front of the new China Airlines office, located between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The new location is closer to the Taipei Metro entrance than the original check-in counter (counter 1) at Terminal 1. The northern wall of the new office is covered by a ¡§Simple and Elegant¡¨ design of carved plum blossom flowers and 120 sets of embossed text, showcasing the corporate identities of China Airlines, Mandarin Airlines, and SkyTeam. The two most prominent walls of the airport, on the eastern and northern sides of the building, are adorned in a simple artistic style, forming an eye-catching centerpiece of the international departure hall that also serves as a photogenic backdrop to camera-toting travelers. A carving of a world map has been installed on the east-facing wall, featuring Taipei¡¦s Songshan, Tokyo¡¦s Haneda, Shanghai¡¦s Hongqiao, and Seoul¡¦s Gimpo airports, underscoring Taiwan¡¦s ambition for Songshan International Airport to become a regional air transportation hub. To streamline the check-in process and reduce waiting times at the airport, China Airlines encourages passengers to check in online and print their own boarding passes. In addition, China Airlines has introduced four common-use self check-in kiosks at Songshan Airport, so passengers can use the kiosks to check in, print boarding passes and baggage tags, and proceed to the luggage drop-off counters. In other service enhancements, China Airlines is the first to offer mobility-impaired passengers a dedicated check-in counter at counters 5 and 6, and China Airlines check-in counters now feature small, arm-level storage counters for passengers to put their travel documents. To celebrate China Airlines¡¦ anniversary, passengers that make duty-free purchases on board before January 31, 2012, can receive a 10% discount (excluding tobacco products and some select products). Passengers that use the check-in kiosks can double their savings and enjoy another 10% off qualifying purchases. China Airlines, the flag carrier of Taiwan and a frequent recipient of industry accolades, has just been named the No. 1 ¡§Ideal Brand¡¨ by Management Magazine in its 2012 Consumer Mindshare Survey. In a nod to China Airlines¡¦ excellence in service and operations, Aviation Week in July ranked China Airlines as the world¡¦s tenth mainline carrier in its 2011 Top-Performing Airlines study. China Airlines became the first Taiwanese airline to join an international airline alliance at the end of September, not only solidifying SkyTeam¡¦s unrivaled position in Asia, but also raising Taiwan¡¦s profile as a regional air transportation hub¡C
