October 9, 2007, Taipei, Taiwan ¡V China Airlines today announced a reorganization of its Engineering & Maintenance team. Mr. Derek Cridland was appointed Senior Vice President of Engineering & Maintenance, effective immediately, taking over a key role in leading a new team to further enhance its safety standards.
Mr. Cridland is a well-known and much respected professional in the airline industry. He joined China Airlines as Advisor in March 2007, bringing with him 37 years of experience in aviation.Before joining CAL, he spent 25 years with Cathay Pacific Airways where he served on the Board as Engineering Director from 1998 to 2006. Mr. Cridland commenced his aviation career at British Airways, and later joined the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) based in the West Indies and Indonesia. The ICAO is the United Nations body that develops standards for aviation safety.It is expected that his proven leadership and wealth of international experience will bring an added dimension to the national carrier of Taiwan.

Following his recent appointment to the CAL chairmanship, China Airlines Chairman and President Ringo Chao clearly stated his expectations for China Airlines.He stressed his commitment to CAL¡¦s continuing innovation of company culture and reorganization of human resources.He also urged CAL¡¦s maintenance team to continuously improve its flight safety in the pursuit of the company¡¦s vision of being one of the world¡¦s most reliable airlines.
