China Airlines to Operate First Lunar New Year Charter Flights to Beijing on Jan. 29
January 28, 2005, Taipei, Taiwan – China Airlines will operate the first 2005 cross-strait charter flights among all Taiwanese carriers on January 29, from Taipei to Beijing. Flight CI 581 will depart Taipei at 8:00 and arrive at Beijing Capital International Airport at 12:20. A ceremony will be held after the flight arrives in Beijing. The returning flight CI 582 will leave at 15:20, with Taiwanese businessmen and their families on board, and arrive in Taipei at 19:25 the same day. An Airbus 330-300 aircraft will be used for this inaugural journey.

In total, China Airlines will operate two round-trip charter flights to Beijing, on January 29 and February 14, and another two charter flights, one to Shanghai and one to Guangzhou, on February 5. All flights will use A330-300 aircraft. Captains Wang Shiao-ping and Ma Meng-shien will team up with co-pilots Suen Huey-jun to undertake the inaugural flight to Beijing. Captains Wang Shiao-ping and Ma Meng-shien are Check Pilots for the A330-300 fleet. A total of 12 experienced flight attendants will be assigned to flights CI 581 and 582, where they will extend China Airlines’ excellent reputation for superb passenger service.

The flights operated by Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines, which entrusted China Airlines with ground handling services, will land in Terminal 2 of CKS International Airport. To extend its hospitality in receiving the VIPs and Taiwanese passengers on mainland Chinese carriers, Dr. Yao-Chung Chiang, Chairman of China Airlines, will host welcome ceremonies for China Southern Airlines at 9:30, for China Eastern Airlines at 12:00 and for Air China And Hainan Airlines at 12:30 at CKS International Airport on January 29. China Airlines also cooperated with Chunghwa Post Company to produce special stamps to celebrate the charter flight event.

The flight cabins will be outfitted with seasonal Chinese New Year decor, with traditional Chinese music and film. A total of 16 movies, 16 short features, 100 CDs, 15 music channels and 15 video games will be available for these charter flights. Special Taiwanese cuisine will also be served to celebrate and enhance the homecoming mood. Each passenger on board will receive a special gift of Taiwanese rice cake and stamp to help them remember these special flights.

China Airlines introduced the A330-300 to its fleet in July, 2004. The new aircraft is equipped with many ergonomic features and each seat comes with a state-of-the-art AVOD (audio video on demand) system, which provides a wide range of audio and video entertainment.
