China Airlines And Taipei First Girls High School Join 2005 Rose Parade In Pasadena
January 2, 2005, Taipei, Taiwan – China Airlines participated in the 116th Rose Parade named “Celebrate Family” in Pasadena, USA on the first day of 2005. With its splendid float “Celebrating Our Native Family – Taiwan,” China Airlines won the International Trophy for most beautiful entry outside the continental United States, the 14th time that the company has won trophies in the tournament.

CAL’s float depicted a lovely aborigine girl and performers in various costumes, signifying the diverse cultures of Taiwan. In addition, the internationally renowned marching band from Taipei First Girls Senior High School performed in front of the CAL float, a combination that attracted the attention of worldwide audiences.

CAL’s float was 55 feet long, 18 feet wide and 35 feet high. The theme was a young aborigine lady wearing a colorful Amis tribal costume, smiling at the audience. Surrounding the float, performers were costumed to represent the diverse cultures of Taiwan, including Hakka girls picking tea leaves, a Lunar New Year family gathering, the Lantern festival celebration, and more. The most distinctive decoration was a 15-foot high swing that featured stunt performances during the parade, portraying one of Taiwan’s aborigine festival rituals.

Another special feature of the parade was the well-known Taipei First Girls Senior High School marching band, which performed in front of the CAL float. The band was invited by the Tournament of Roses, and was the first marching band invited twice within ten years.

The Pasadena Rose Parade and the Oscar Awards are the two major annual events in Los Angeles, attracting an audience of more than 1 billion people worldwide. CAL first participated in the Rose Parade in 1987, and has won 14 prizes in this prestigious event.
