CI To Inaugurate Taipei-Seattle-Houston Service
May 12, 2004, Taipei, Taiwan- China Airlines will inaugurate the 3 weekly flights of Taipei-Seattle-Houston passenger service on June 22. China Airlines will become the first Taiwanese carrier to serve the southern US. The addition of Seattle and Houston will give China Airlines eight passenger destinations in the US. In addition, CAL serves four code-share cities in US, together with Delta Air Lines, which extends China Airlines’ network coverage to 12 passenger destinations across the US.

The Houston bound flights(CI 016) depart Taipei every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 4:15 pm. The return flights(CI 015) leave Houston at 10:45 pm every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Both flights stop over in Seattle. An A340-300 aircraft with 30 seats in Dynasty Supreme Class and 246 seats in Economy Class will be used on this route. Departure and arrival timings of CI 016/015 serve perfect online connection for passengers traveling from the southern US to Southeast Asia.

Seattle Airport is the largest international airport in the northwestern US. The airport operates more than 300 international flights each week, including 24 flights to and from Asia. The airport has posted an average of international passenger traffic growth at 8.2% per year for the past ten years.

Seattle has a population of 2.7 million, including 20% ethnic Asia. Washington State is the 3rd largest exporting state in the US. Many world famous corporations have their headquarters in Seattle, including Microsoft, AT&T, amazon.com, Nintendo, COSTCO, Starbucks and Boeing. Due to the importance of its air cargo operations, China Airlines has introduced cargo flights to Seattle since 2001.

Houston is the 4th largest city in the US, and the biggest city in Texas, with 2 million population. Many Taiwanese companies have set up branches in Houston, which is close to other Texas cities such as Austin, San Antonio and Dallas.
