Travel Advisories Against Swine Flu Threat
May 4, 2009, Taipei, Taiwan- In light of the health risks of travel due to an outbreak of the H1N1 swine flu worldwide, China Airlines has taken a number of procedures in place to ensure its passengers' health.

"According to the World Health Organization (WHO), while the world is heightened into Pandemic Flu Alert 5, Taiwan is currently defined Level One (on the green light) without a suspected flu case," the national health official, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) declared on May 3, 2009.

Nevertheless, in response to the WHO and Taiwan government’s preparedness for Influenza pandemic, the China Airlines Task Force has posted additional measures in accordance with worldwide developments in the disease outbreak.

*. Protecting passengers

- CAL, in line with guidance from national authorities, will provide an updated health message broadcast on all flights arriving into Taiwan to alert crew and passengers on the current situation, and the necessary actions required. All inbound passengers to Taiwan will have to sign a health declaration form.

- CAL's airport staff, at all worldwide stations, will lookout passengers for any symptoms of irregular health, and passengers who are ill may require medical approval prior to boarding.

- CAL already has proper procedures in place to assist cabin crew if they need to deal with passengers onboard, who are suspected a respiratory infection.

*. Cabin hygiene

- With the health of passengers and employees in mind, China Airlines always maintains the highest standard of cleaning and disinfecting for its modern aircraft cabins, seats, galleys, restrooms and inflight service items etc. Cleaning procedures are aligned with guidelines issued by various international regulatory and health authorities.

*. Clean air & water

The air filtration systems are well equipped in the modern airplanes, using ECS (Environmental Control System) and HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) to ensure the highest possible quality of cabin air and water.

*. Catering precautions

China Airlines and its catering subsidiary adhere to the strictest food preparation and storage procedures, to reassure the highest food safety standards as required by the regulatory authorities worldwide. The airline closely follows guidelines from the local governments in its network.
