Baggage Fees |
| Passengers with checked baggage exceeding the free baggage allowance will be charged for extra baggage fees through the following criteria. Baggage fees include charges for excess/oversized baggages and speciality items (golfing equipment, surfboarding and windsurfing equipment, carriage of pet, snow/water skiing equipment, body-board equipment, and cabin baggage occupying a seat.)

1. The following baggage fees are mostly updated ones. For comparison of old and new fares of recent or upcoming changes, if any, it will be listed on Changed Baggage Fees.
2. The following baggage fees would be collected based on commencing city of a purchased ticket. i.e. US$100 will be charged for 1st excess baggage on each way direction if a passenger is holding a round trip ticket starting from Los Angeles to Taipei and back. |

Sum of the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm (62 in) for each piece of baggage), but not exceeding 203 cm (80 in). |
For First Class and Business Class service, one time of the applicable rates shall apply to: |
- Excess Number : Each bag (piece) exceeding 2 checked bags (pieces), and
- Oversized: Each bag (piece) of which the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm (62 in), but not exceeding 203 cm (80 in).
- Twice the applicable unit rates shall apply to: Each bag (piece) exceeding 2 checked bags (pieces) and of which the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm (62 in), but not exceeding 203 cm (80 in) - Excess Number plus Oversized.
- Any baggage of which the sum of the three dimensions exceeds 80 inches (203cm) and/or the weight of which exceed 32 kg (70 lb.) shall not be carried as accompanied baggage unless prior handling arrangements have been made with the carrier(s).Any such baggage shall be excluded from the free baggage allowance and shall be weighed and charged at three times the applicable unit rates for the first 45 kg or fraction thereof; for each additional 10 kg or fraction thereof, one additional unit rate shall be charged.

- One time of the applicable rates shall apply to: Excess number: Each bag (piece) exceeding 2 checked bags (pieces) not weighing over 23 kg, and Oversized: Each bag (piece) of which the total dimensions exceed 158 cm (62 in), but not exceeding 203 cm (80 in).
- One time of the applicable rates plus TWD1000, CAD32, USD32 or equivalent amounts of other currencies, as applicable, shall apply to: Excess number: Each bag (piece) exceeding 2 checked bags (pieces) weighing over 23 kg (50 lb.) but not higher than 32 kg (70 lb.)
- Twice the applicable unit rates shall apply to: Each bag (piece) exceeding 2 checked bags (pieces) weighing not higher than 23 kg (50 lb.) and of which the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm (62 in), but not exceeding 203 cm (80 in) - Excess Number plus Oversized.
- Twice the applicable unit rates plus TWD1000, CAD32, USD32 or equivalent amounts of other currencies, as applicable, shall apply to: Each bag (piece) exceeding 2 checked bags (pieces) weighing 23 kg-32 kg, of which the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm (62 in), but not exceeding 203 cm (80 in) - Excess Number, over-weight plus Oversized.
- Any baggage of which the sum of the three dimensions exceeds 80 inches (203cm) and/or the weight of which exceed 32kg (70 lb.) shall not be carried as accompanied baggage unless prior handling arrangements have been made with the carrier(s).
- Any such baggage shall be excluded from the free baggage allowance and shall be weighed and charged at three times the applicable unit rates for the first 45 kg or fraction thereof; for each additional 10 kg or fraction thereof, one additional unit rate shall be charged.

Assessment of Excess Baggage Charge in Weight System |
Baggage in excess of the checked baggage allowance shall be charged per kg at the rate of 1.5% of the highest normal direct adult one way Economy Class fare (except Amsterdam, Rome, Frankfurt and Vienna):
- In effect on the date of issuance of the excess baggage ticket.
- In the direction of travel.
- The excess baggage charge rules of the first carrier is the primary standard, from the point for which the checked baggage allowance is exceeded to the first point at which the baggage is collected (excluding any transfer point where a passenger must collect his/her baggage because of imposed regulations/requirements, e.g. for customs clearance, change of airport, etc.).

- Golfing equipment consists of one golf bag and one pair of golf shoes.
- If in excess of the normal free allowance, shall be charged 50% of the applicable charge.
- This special charge is limited to one golf bag per passenger; for any golf bag in excess thereof, the normal charge shall apply.

- Golfing equipment consists of one golf bag containing not more than 14 clubs and 12 balls, and one pair of golf shoes, weighing not more than 15 kg in total.
- The charge shall be equal to the applicable rate of 6 kg of excess baggage when the above articles are not included in the normal free allowance.
- When the above articles are included in the normal free allowance, any overweight resulting from such inclusion shall be assessed at the above special charge (6 kg) or the normal excess baggage charge, whichever is lower.
- For any weight of the golfing equipment in excess of 15 kg, the normal excess baggage charge shall apply.

Except to/from/within South West Pacific, surfboard/windsurfing equipment may include in the checked baggage allowance. If in excess of the normal free allowance, the charge shall be:
- One board not exceeding 109 inches (277cms) to be charged at the applicable rate for 5 kilograms of excess baggage.
- One board exceeding 109 inches (277cms) to be charged at the applicable rate for 8 kilograms of excess baggage.
- This special charge is limited to one board per passenger. Additional boards at the applicable excess baggage charge.

Carriage of Pets
Domestic dogs and cats which are considered as “PETS” may be accepted for carriage as checked baggage conditionally. Please contact CI for details of conditions and restrictions. The pet(s) and the container shall not be included in the passenger‘s free baggage allowance, and the excess baggage charge shall be assessed as follows: |

- When the above articles are in excess of the free baggage allowance, the charge shall be equal to the applicable rate of 3 kilograms of excess baggage charge.
- When the above articles are included in the free baggage allowance, any overweight resulting from such inclusion shall be assessed at the above special charge (3 kilograms) or the normal excess baggage charge, whichever is lower.

Body-board Equipment can be included in the checked baggage allowance. But the maximum size of body-board is limited as 120cm (length) X 50 (width). |

Excess Valuation Charge |
- China Airlines accept a declaration of valuation of no higher than USD2,500.00 (or equivalent at the bankers buying rate (BBR) at the date of commencement of travel) per passenger. Passenger wishing to make declaration of valuation over such amount should be encouraged to seek private insurance.
- Excess valuation is not available on items such as money, jewelry, precious metal, negotiable papers, securities, business documents, samples, paintings, antiques, artifacts, manuscripts, irreplaceable books or publications, etc., which in general terms are classified as "Valuables", when such valuables are included in checked baggage.
- Excess value declaration is limited to CI on-line checked baggage only. Value declaration for carry-on baggage shall not be accepted.
- Value declaration and the consequent liability do not apply to pooled baggage. Each passenger must declare the value and pay the applicable charges separately.
- When such a declaration is made, a charge of USD1.00 will be applied for each USD100.00 of valuation.

Cabin Baggage Occupying a Seat |
The charge of each seat occupied by such baggage shall be the fare, which would have been charged to a passenger occupying such seat(s) for the travel to be undertaken at the time of booking the additional seat(s). Passengers can purchase any applicable fare types, excluding inclusive tour, child or other rebated fares such as spouse, agent or ship’s crew fares. The passenger’s checked baggage allowance shall not be increased when using this facility. |

A child less than 12 years old or an infant is considered as UM if he/she is:
- Not accompanied by an adult passenger aged 18 years or older;
- The young minor aged less than 5 years old is not sitting in the same compartment with the accompanying adult passenger or
- Not having the same origin/destination as the accompanying adult passenger.

| Young Passenger Escort Service |
| For young passengers (YP) aged 12 years but less than 16 years, a YP optional fee can be paid when traveling alone for escort service and customs inspection. (effective date: 01 September 2012 based on ticket issued date) |

a. All CI/AE scheduled flights, excluding code-share flights operated by other carriers.
b. If a YP has an onward connecting flight on other airlines out of destination of a CI/AE flight, our staff at the flight connecting station will help escort the passenger to the transit counter of the receiving carrier at the airport.

Award Ticket |
Once a free award ticket has been used, requests for reissuing or refunding the ticket will not be accepted. Members may apply to reissue or refund an unused award ticket under the following conditions:
The refund of award tickets from the same award must be processed at the same time. For the refund of an award ticket, a handling charge of 4% mileage on an award will be deducted from the account of the member holding that ticket(s). Normal ticketing regulations apply to ticket award refunds as well. China Airlines will return mileage still valid on the refund date to the original member's account. In case paired tickets of an award were issued to different persons, the owner of the award is deemed as the holder. The receiving nominee of a transferred award will be deemed as owner of that award. A handling fee of TWD$1,500 or US$50 (or the equivalent in local currency) can replace above mileage deduction only if there is no sufficient mileage in the account of member requesting ticket refund. After the issuance of the award ticket, an additional fee of TWD$3,000 or US$50 (or the equivalent in local currency) may be collected each time the passenger does not travel according to the origin/destination stated on the ticket before the ticket may be used to continue the travel.. A handling fee of TWD$1500 (or the equivalent of US$50 in local currencies) will be charged for each ticket to reissue a free award ticket. |
Award Transfer |
When manually process award transfer, a handling charge of 4% mileage of the award will be deducted from account of the member requesting the transfer. In case there is no sufficient mileage in the account, mileage deduction can be replaced by cash payment: TWD$600 (or US$20 equivalent in local currency) and TWD$900 (or US$30 equivalent in local currency) will be charged for an upgrade award and a free ticket award respectively. When manually canceling transferred award, a handling charge of 4% mileage of the award will be deducted from account of the member requesting the transfer.
