China Airlines has sponsored Taipei Municipal Zoo to take a husband and thus, it was on January 26, 2006 via CI062 from Frankfurt, Germany to Taipei, two pairs of red necked wallabies and one family with four Chinese crocodile lizards were transported for the purpose of enhancing the civil interchange between Germany and Taiwan. For red necked wallabies and Chinese crocodile lizard, they are mainly scattered in the subtropical zone as well as the temperate zone. For the Chinese crocodile lizard, it is considered as endemic species. Although both are not German origin natural born animals, they have been bred by the Nuremberg Zoo in Germany. Taipei Municipal Zoo has indicated that for this transportation of red necked wallabies and Chinese crocodile lizard sponsored by China Airlines, the major purpose is to bring in new blood strain for breeding of the species. Moreover, it will also enhance the major interchange among major zoos between Europe and Taiwan. China Airlines has pointed out that since the time for transportation was winter time, during the process of transportation, the ground handling staff members had specially arranged for temperature controlled trucks by having the temperature of the inner compartment as well as the outer compartment to be maintained at 20 degrees centigrade in order to maintain the animal’s stability. In order to meet IATA’s live animal regulations, China Airlines has to confirm live animal’s health condition in advance assuring that it will meet the transportation requirements of the Transpacific flights as well as the transportation requirements between cities. Then, they are allowed to approach the authorities concerned for submitting the necessary application. Prior to boarding the flight, China Airlines along with the Frankfurt relevant Animal Quarantine Unit will then further reconfirm that everything is in good order and will further make sure that everything is in line with IATA stipulations. For this shipment of red necked wallabies, the height is approximately 92.5 to 105 cm. The length of the Chinese crocodile lizard is approximately 20.32 cm. Upon arrival to Taipei and after having gone through quarantine procedures and duly met by the Municipal Zoo party, the wallabies and the lizard were to be displayed starting from March at the Australian Animal Area as well as the Reptile Section. |
