March 7, 2000, Taipei, Taiwan - After introducing seven Boeing 747-400 freighters and continuously implementing fleet simplification program, the cargo traffic in China Airlines has shown steady growth. China Airlines estimated that its freight available ton kilometer (FATK) increased by 38.46% over the same period in 1999 to reach 424.33 million, and freight revenue ton kilometer (FRTK) grew by 27.41% to reach 320.91 million.

The cargo load factor was 75.63% in February. The European routes topped all other destinations with the highest cargo load factor of 86.5%.

By the end of this year, China Airlines plans to introduce two more B747-400 freighters to replace B747-200 freighters. These new aircraft not only will reduce the average age of China Airlines' fleet, but will also improve its fuel efficiency and service quality.
